Recently, there has been much discussion on how cloud computing and collaborative learning will affect K-12 education in the future.  New Media Consortium (NMC) examined more than 100 technologies and came up with six of the most significant ones that will be used in schools within the next five years.  These include activities using mobile devices and various reality games.

There are challenges of incorporating technology into education. Making technological changes in school systems are typically very slow. Also, many technology leaders are unsure on how to appropriately implement these new ideas into the school systems.

On the other hand there are some benefits to cloud computing and collaborative learning.  Students are constantly using technology in their everyday personal lives such as mobile devices, social media and the Internet which will increase their interest and involvement in the collaborative learning concept.  Many are insisting that it will increase student’s desire to learn and work together with other classmates on projects.

How do you think these new programs will affect K-12 education in the future?  Has your school already started implementing such technological concepts?
