You can reach thousands in minutes, whether you need to squelch rumors of a bomb scare or send an alert about a last minute change of venue. You can also segment messages; this means that if the buses from the fourth grade class trip are stuck in traffic‚ you can reach out to all parents and guardians in that grade to provide updates and information. No special hardware or software is required‚ and the price per student is one of the lowest fees families will pay for anything this school year. Learn more by clicking here.

Do you “friend” students on Facebook?
If so, you might want to set clear, firm boundaries and think long and hard about how you intend to conduct those online relationships. According to an article on eSchoolNews, “Coach sued for requesting Facebook logins” by Meris Stansbury, a Mississippi cheerleading coach gave a member of the squad the boot after reading her profanity-laced conversation with another squad member. She also made school administrators and other cheerleading coaches aware of the teenager’s online language. Did she go too far? The teen’s family thinks so‚ to the point where they “are seeking $100 million from [the coach] and the high school for what the suit claims are violations of [the teen’s] right to privacy and freedom of speech”. Quick-Tips: Helpful Info for the Busy Education Pro
Helpful Summer Info for the Busy Education Pro
Greetings from our staff at School Announcement! Whether this note finds you preparing for “re-entry” or your school year has already begun‚ we send you hearty wishes for a fulfilling year in your vital academic role.
While reading the article upon which one of today’s School Pro Quick Tips is based (Do you “friend” students on Facebook?)‚ I immediately thought of a very unique way some of our customers have used School Announcement to address a problem that’s becoming more common by the minute: Destructive rumors run wild via cell phones and the Internet.
It used to be that rumors were something that could be shaken off or that would run that natural course over time; if there’s no one to spread false information, that information stops circulating. Today there is virtually no stopping the spread of “hot news” once it’s posted or texted‚ but with School Announcement it’s possible for individual schools and whole districts to fight fire with fire. How? By reaching all parents/guardians, teachers and even School Board Members‚ if appropriate‚ with truthful information‚ corrections and/or advice for handling hurtful misinformation.
I must say‚ I am still impressed by the innovative thinking of those customers‚ and I’m very proud to offer a communications tool that can do such a wide range of good in this high-tech age.
I leave you with a quote that seems to hit just the right note for the launch of a new school year:
“A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.”
~Henry Brooks Adams
All the best!

Strategies for helping shy students bloom
If you overheard someone describe herself as a “recovering shy person” you might think it’s the set-up for a good punch line‚ but to licensed clinical psychologist Renee Gilbert‚ it’s no joke. Dr. Gilbert describes herself just that way‚ and has made it her mission to help others who wish to shed this feeling that can become an obstacle to achieving both everyday and long-term fulfillment. Her website is worth checking out‚ particularly the page on “Shyness in the Classroom” where she provides:
- A brief overview of the influence a teacher can have in coaxing the shy child out of his shell
- 8 tips for working with shy children
- Classroom exercises
- A list of related websites

The key to handling inevitable classroom interruptions
To get to Carnegie Hall you may need to “practice‚ practice‚ practice,” but to ensure that students keep learning even during distracting interruptions the trick is to‚ “Organize‚ organize‚ organize!” In his article entitled‚ “Teaching Secrets: How to Organize for Learning‚” Marti Schwartz illustrates the importance of:
- Arriving at school early to have the classroom student-ready
- Taking a few seconds to notice each child’s well (or not so well) being as they first enter the classroom
- Establishing and role modeling routines.
